About Me

Want8.net is home of Riko Trihendrawan, a web developer currently resides in Denpasar Bali who loves to apply web standards and its semantic code markups, separation of styling from contents to produce usable as well as accessible web sites. Riko currently is web manager of Tirian, an international team building & leadership company based in Bali and Australia, as well as an internet entrepreneur with several ongoing web project start ups.

I’ve been in web development industry since more than a decade ago. I like to construct XHTML standard websites with accessibility, usability & SEO considerations in mind. Yeah, couldn’t agree more the web gonna be a better place to visit if more and more websites constructed with web standards.

Most of the time I code web applications in PHP, ASP or ASP.NET with MySQL, MS SQL or Access database. Though I was once constructed my own custom Content Management Systems (CMS) in PHP & MySQL, I presently most of the time set up and customized well known open source CMS, means Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla, Zen Cart or OS Commerce.

When I’m not cuddling with my little son Maxi and my wife Tantri, you can find me busy grinding on some new web projects, or just killing time tweaking code & design layout, or better, replying request for web consultation session. Sometimes, on a good day, you may find me rushing to Sanur beach in the morning for snorkeling & sun bathing, or else in the evening to Kuta beach to catch today’s view of sunset. Yupe, life in Bali could drag you with too much sun, sand and s… (busted, I meant surf here..).

I was born in Denpasar the capital town of Bali, but was grown up in Bandung & Jakarta. I moved here, there and return several times in the past. I got a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Bandung, West Java in 1995. My final project was about a simple programming in expert knowledge base artificial intelligence. It might have been my “love at the first keyboard strike” experience thing, that I left all mechanical matters for more interaction with computers & web programming.

In the past I went several times to U.S., back in 1997 and 2000 when nobody thought there would be bad moments like 9/11 or Bush, Jr. became a president. I visited Seattle Washington, Phoenix Arizona, Davenport Iowa, Irvine California, Washington DC and lived for 6 months in Flushing, Queens, suburban of the the Big Apple New York City. I was happy I had a chance visiting Grand Canyon, White House, the fine Statue of Liberty (I queued more than 3 hours to get to the top at Liberty’s crown). Sometimes when I had nothing to do at all in NY I might go crazy traveling from one subway train to another, over & over, going from one end to another for no particular reasons.

Back in the 90’s, when I was a fresh college graduate, I visited Singapore several times, all for business & training trips for Alcoa where my former Singaporean boss, Sam Wong had an affiliation. Sam was a very unique person who like to party, famous for his expertise in selecting the right cuisine for the right business occasions. I recalled during leisure time, in our busy agenda in Singapore, Sam being a home-grown Singaporean himself, showed us most of his favorite & most crowded famous discos, night clubs and karaoke bars in the city. And also thanks to Sam, I believe I had tasted most if not all of Singapore’s most popular food sold by street vendors.

Enough telling story, I’d like to thank you for your visit to my WantedDotNet.
